The oil is used in the production of soap and paints and varnishes. Sunflower cake and young shoots of sunflower are processed into animal feed.
Active cultivation of sunflower in agriculture began in the 19th century. It quickly adapted to the fertile lands and climate of central Russia, and thanks to the work of breeders it appeared in other regions. Modern varieties are distinguished by a high oil content in the seeds, are not afraid of wind, drought, frost, and are resistant to diseases and pests. The crop yield reaches 3-4 tons of seeds per hectare. But for such a result, it is necessary not only to choose the right variety, but also to provide it with favorable conditions for growth and ripening.
